This year contact-improvisation is celebrating it's 36th birthday.
In 1972 Steve Paxton got together a group of students at Oberlin College in Ohio to see what real forces do to a body.
Basically they did two things: a standing meditation (the small dance) and a structure in which one person stood on a mat and
the others ran at him/her and threw themselves at him/her, after which they mostly fell to the ground.
From that first research, done also in performances, c.i. grew to the large range it is today, practiced in many countries
around the world.
We join the worldwide satelite events to celebrate this with a special jam in Amsterdam on june 22:
- starting with Steve's small dance we will get into jamming;
- there will be some live musicians;
- maybe we arrange some special "Round Robbin"
- there will be space to watch some of the early videos of CI;
- and we will end with a potluck
(please bring some nice food and/or drinks to share).
On june 22 you are very welcome
from 13 - 18 o'clock
in studio Dok, Entrepotdok 4, Amsterdam.
costs: entrance is FREE
(we have some savings of the jams we use to cover the studio rent, etc.) |
Be wellcome and bring your friends.
For beginners as well as for experienced dancers.
